“In 1987, The Book Services Ltd published a slim, 144-page cookbook called Microwave for One. The book is by Sonia Allison, who has quite a few publications under her belt. But she’s best known for her masterpiece of tragedy, a book whose title and cover is so rife with sadness that one almost has the urge to brush the invisible tears from Ms. Allison’s face as she leans over her microwave and her food spread.” (via The Worst Book Ever is ‘Microwave for One’ « PWxyz)
“Johan Lorbeer is a German artist concerned with phenomena of perception. His performances are caught on the borderline between image and presentation and they perturb us through their apparent incompatibility with our spacial experiences. The artist develops positions in space which lead to surreal alienation of everyday situations. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg and became famous in the past few years because of his “Still-Life” Performances, which took place in the public area. His installations includes “Working Class Heroe” and “Tarzan Standing Leg”, which are famous in Germany. Several of these performances feature Lorbeer in an apparently impossible position such as a street cleaner standing horizontally out from a wall high above the street, or standing in mid-air ‘leaning’ against a wall with one hand in Cairo, Egypt in November 2008.”

“Each year the french ministry of culture and communication invites a leading artist to create a work that responds to the exceptional
architectural space of the grand palais in paris. the sheer monumental scale of the building provided the inspiration for a big idea: monumenta.
this year, indian-born, british-based artist anish kapoor created a temporary, site-specific installation inside the nave of the glass-domed hall.
the space was originally unveiled at the 1900 universal exhibition.
for its fourth edition, after guest artists anselm kiefer, richard serra and christian boltanski, it has been the turn of anish kapoor to meet the
challenge with a brand new work for the 13,500 m2 space.” (via anish kapoor: monumenta 2011 - leviathan)
Enjoy this unexpectedly great documentary on Turkey Day (somewhat ironically):
“After a local farmer left a bowl of eggs on Joe Hutto’s front porch, his life was forever changed. Hutto, possessing a broad background in the natural sciences and an interest in imprinting young animals, incubated the eggs and waited for them to hatch. As the chicks emerged from their shells, they locked eyes with an unusual but dedicated mother. One man’s remarkable experience of raising a group of wild turkey hatchlings to adulthood.”
